Some web sites are trying to encourage professional visitors by providing information, news, bulletin boards, and chat facilities, and support for all aspects of business. Some of them are doing this to encourage a high traffic flow to support advertising, and to leverage their current off web businesses - often buyers' guides and publications. Most will require membership or registration to have access to all of the facilities. It is possible that they may eventually want to charge for membership. At the moment the sites appear to be just ahead of the demand, and some of the technology may be more suitable to countries with free local call access to the Internet. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to establish what the user needs are, and how big the potential market is.
